The ROOTS HISTORICAL ARTS COUNCIL, founded by Eric Strong, a major partner in “TAKE PRIDE IN THE EAST SIDE” and many other initiatives.  

Roots Historical Arts Council Inc., or 806-928-4268.  Headquarters and art gallery at 1728 19th Street (near Lubbock High School).  Collaborating with Lubbock Independent School District and pending:  Texas Tech University College of Visual and Performing Arts.  Sharing the humanities with underserved populations:  designated “Seedlings Gallery” for youth art exhibits to celebrate tomorrow’s artists today;  ”When We Were Children” photography exhibit;  providing college and financial aid information;  endowing and awarding scholarships; donating musical instruments to Iles Elementary School and historical resources to Hodges Elementary School; sponsoring “Freedom to Succeed:  Strategies for Success in a Changing World” all-day workshop for selected students at targeted Title I/low-income middle schools – to provide mentoring, tutoring and encouragement from a team of parents, teachers, students and nationally recognized learning experts.
