AmeriCorps     Senior Corps     Learn &  Serve     AmeriCorps*VISTA     AmeriCorps*NCCC  (National Civilian Community Corps:  full-time, team-based, residential program for men & women ages 18 yr. – 24 yr.)

Opportunity for recent college/university graduates to get practical experience in an education setting. Ideal for students who are undecided about their pursuit of education as a career or would like to have practical experience & professional development before continuing on to graduate school: www.FGSD.K12.OR.US or JLerwick@FGSD.K12.OR.US or 503-359-8110, x. 4537. Improve student achievement through tutoring, mentoring, parent-involvement programs & volunteer generation. Serve as an AmeriCorps member full time (1740) hours for up to 11 months at K-12 school sites. While AmeriCorp member activities vary from to school to school, the programs objectives include providing tutoring & mentoring activities to low-achieving & at-risk students — with an emphasis on math &/or reading; recruiting & coordinating additional new parent/community volunteers; developing, implementing &/or staffing extended school-day activities — particularly those that combine recreation, academic enrichment & tutorial activities; develop & implement new parent-outreach strategies; participate in team-based service projects in Washington County, Oregon; & more. Members receive $1,036/month living allowance; $4,725 education award at the conclusion of the service-hour requirement (can be used to retire existing student-loan debt or to pay tuition for continuing education) — subject to income taxes; forbearance from outstanding student loans while in AmeriCorps service (interest payments are subject to income taxes); basic health care, graduate credit upon successful completion of development requirements from Pacific University’s School of Education, childcare if eligible.
